The 114th United States Congress launches on January 5, 2015* and it looks…bleak. Conservative dread has seized both the Senate and the House until January 3, 2017 and we – progressive forces for the humane treatment of living entities – must leap into the breach. It shall be no surprise, therefore, that A Wicked Company has aligned with Austin agitators COMA IN ALGIERS, chomping and frothing as they are to battle those who would roll us back to the Stone Age. AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN.

COMA IN ALGIERS was first introduced to A Wicked Company via WFMU, who declared their previous album ✰Christ Adonis Algiers✰ the station’s ‘Rekkid Of The Day’ on March 24, 2013. “Next-level gothgarage” was the tag line, and it just so happened we already had a copy of the Casual Victim Pile II comp to reference (12XU - 2011), as Coma was one of those tearing up side two. So we were ready. Providence works it - works it real good sometimes - and voilà, a collaboration was planned! A fucking year and a half later, ✰Happy Forever✰ is ready to enliven your Best of 2015 lists.

Somewhere between Flipper, Watery Love and the internecine savagery of NNCK frenching Cop Shoot Cop (with two or three guitars instead of none) is Coma In Algiers. That may seem preposterous to the skeptical quadragenarian and quinquagenarian persons amongst our listenership, but you’ll be delighted to hear that we know well about whom we write. While perhaps flying under the radar of a defanged music press in this second decade of the 21st century, there is no doubt that Coma are the wayward sons of an insolvent AmRep lineage. As the internet would tell us, this is their 4th full length, although the prime movers in the band have been carving since 2001. “Next level gothgarage”? Perhaps, but ✰Happy Forever✰ careens from early TRIP METAL™ Meat Puppets scrabbling at the lock to an unmistakable post core bluster, wildly varied on the surface but with a sick internal consistency throughout. “Noise rock” has been a soubriquet previously hung from their necks, but to consent to such is to belie the unforgettable brill in these eleven burns. Have you been listening to rock music for many years? Good. There’s a high probability you’ve not heard the likes of Coma In Algiers and consequently, rejuvenation awaits your decrepitude…as does action, or as alluded to above, counteraction.

Coma In Algiers: “happy forever” because they know that to bleed on behalf of the correct side of history is to suffer right now…albeit with some heavy tuneage, naturally. “Communicate communicate communicate.”
